Yesterday I participated in a service employment. The customer doses soldering paste as a application on a metal part, dosing quantity approx. 1.5 g, and had a ViscoTec plant in use, which ran for 7 years nearly problem-free. The entire plant consists of the components dosing control with dispenser and product supply, whereby the product supply is implemented as agitating mixing system with evacuation. The soldering paste is enriched with many air and/or gas vesicles, which is sucked off by the vacuum produced by a vacuum pump. Several weeks ago one had cleaned the hoses and the storage vessel, and since then our Dispenser had twice failed. In addition for some time the dosing result was not satisfactorily. The failure cause of the Dispensers was fast found: during the cleaning apparent larger chunks of the somewhere hardened soldering paste came into the system, and blocked a nozzle. The ViscoTec Dispenser then must develop a very high pressure, this leads medium-term to the destruction of the construction unit stator. During this maintenance the operator tells by the way that the vaccum pump does not function ‚probably’ any longer. He hasn`t thought over it however no further, and from his boss he was not asked over remarkablenesses. Would have been so simple: if air is in the paste, then the dosing accuracy cannot be correct, this always leads to a bad accuracy, and/or above all also to a dripping at the nozzle or for the interruption of the application. The cause was a defective safety switch and fast found. A small cause - large effect: often this saying applies to problems when dosing. A sealing for 20 cent, which is not leak-proof, often causes costs of several 1000 Euro. And we are afraid nothing as much, as air in the system or in the product. Its George Senftl

Probably in each company, above all if it concerns dosing of different adhesives, sealing materials or colors, the question often arises: did we make that already times? And above all: how did we make that? And were there problems? I do not know, as much 1000 different adhesives or sealing materials there are, beginning with anaerobic adhesive, over RTV silicones to UV adhesives. I know however that many of them require an individual dosing technology. Now we have dosed some hundred different products with surely already, made many errors, but gained evenly also very much experience, where one must watch out. So that this knowledge is not only present in our coworkers´mind, we began now the structure of a data base. Here now the most diverse plant parameters to all different products are deposited, if possible with exact product number and MDS, and all test results or customer experiences in this connection are stored. Thus if you should look for someone, which has already experience with a special product, just ask us. The probability that we know your application, is high. It doesn`t cost anything to ask, and one does not have to reinvent the wheel again.

With a recent visit to the adhesive manufacturer Delo, we talked also about the topic liability, and this literally ambiguous.
Meant is here who is responsible in the legal sense for a bond?
From the view of the adhesive manufacturer (and that is very important for the user to know) only for certain characteristics of the adhesive, like e.g. tensile strength, elongation of break, shearing strength or e-module a guarantee is generally taken over. But not for e.g. that with this adhesive two construction units lasts 100 years together with a load X. From the view of the dosing plant manufacturer only one guarantee can be taken over for quantity, accuracies or that the adhesive is not stressed or air is entered. It becomes critical particularly with applications of 2-components, since here not only the mixing ratio, but also the mixing quality are extremely important. A respectable supplier will and cannot take responsibility, since too many factors of risks meet here, which are not provable in the case of doubt, and generally also not at all the technical possibilities of an examination are present. The legal liability remains thereby with the user. How now is the proceeding for a new bonding process? Ideal way here is looked for a close partnership between adhesive manufacturers, dosing plant manufacturers and users. Here a close exchange of information must take place from the beginning of the development, which brings in all partners with. It makes a little sense, here (unfortunately often observed) for reasons of the secrecy important data restrainable. Only out from common made experiments data can be determined, which offer high security to the user.

Motek and only little wistfully we look back after Sinsheim. Not because of that qualitatively and quantitatively high-quality contacts, but because of the not completely optimal traffic route. For us the past six fairs, since we exhibited 2001 for the first time on the Motek, brought many different impressions. So my colleagues might prove their sauna restistance with the first participation 2001 still in the provisional tent. I had more luck with my first participation 2002 then, because the most modern hall stood already there, the hall 6. Unfortunately this hall was located somewhat remotely, so that we could often extend our short fair-nights in the morning. In our opinion it was the result of the unfortunate positioning of our booth which was located on an outer aisle and the likewise not completely successful visitor guidance. Anything the despite our experiences did not fail predominantly positively, even if only heavily in contacts, from this resulting conversion or rising numbers of employees can be expressed. If one makes the summary and regards itself thereby our customer master, it is noticeable that the Motek has here large influence. In memory probably remains also the Sickinger Hof in Walldorf in which we accomodated since 2002. Nice staff, good food and room in whom you can bear one week comfortably. Besides is also the Walldorfer city center inviting to walk, comfortably eat and also times to drink beer. With our exhibits we also left some experiments behind us. At first the opinion dominated, if we want to present our dosing technology optimally, we must show a robot, which demonstrates the speed-proportional applications. Since in the first two years however many wanted to buy robots in place of the dosing technology, we have decided to demonstrate this with „a record player“ as it was called by us. Different speeds could be changed by the visitor and their effect on the made appliaction be examined. Purpose was to demonstrate that with coupling with the travel speed the bead forming intensity remains always alike in the diameter. If one switches the coupling off, also the bead forming intensity changes with the travel speed, which can be also changed by the dispenser speed. This year had we in a brainstorming, as I mean, the ingenious idea, the visitor can move a crank to demonstrate that the bead forming intensity remains, no matter how fast it would be cranked.
Next year the Motek moves then into the new fair in Stuttgart. At the same time it will take place for the first time as attached adjoining exhibition the Bondexpo (fair particularly for sticking and sealing materials as well as associated dosing techniques). That we will naturally go through the jump to Stuttgart is beyond all questions. Whether we will however exhibit at the Motek or the Bondexpo from the beginning as new presentation platform is not decided yet. Where would you visit us gladly? On the Motek or the Bondexpo?
How did the Motek from your view as a visitor develop in the last years? Give us a short feedback.

Love of greetings from Töging A. Inn
